Checkers

My implementation of checkers is open-source, and available on Mac, Linux, and Windows. American Standard rules are enforced. ~ Nathan Stocks

Duck Punt

Duck Punt is a simple two-player game for children in which players try to kick a rubber duck from one end of a football field to the other. For added fun, the game's soundtrack features the fight-songs of both Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. I've tested it on Windows, Linux, and MacOS X, but since it's written in Java, it should run on any platform.

Thirsty Nellan

Thirsty Nellan is a 3D graphical adventure game for children. It's completely non-violent and family-friendly, yet still presents a good challenge. The download contains precompiled binaries for Windows and Linux as well as C++ source code.

Debian Junior

"The primary goal of the Debian Junior project is to make Debian an OS our children want to run. This involves some sensitivity to the needs of children as expressed by the children themselves."

"The goal is to identify the highest quality applications available within Debian that are suitable for children, add to that number by packaging ones not yet in Debian, and ensure that the chosen applications are kept in a well-maintained state. One implementation goal is to provide meta packages to make installing groups of "child friendly" applications easier for the sys admin. Another is to improve our packages in ways that particularly matter for children, which could be as simple as filling in holes in the documentation, or could be more complex, involving work with the upstream authors."

While the scope of Debian Junior is far broader than Wholesome Entertainment, they do aggregate a large number of wholesome games for children.

PCLOS Kid-Safe

I first have to admit I do like Debian Junior and it does show promise. Still There is this (discontinued) "Live-CD" that I have been using and still is available for download.

Kid-Safe allows you to just insert the CD and turn on your computer (If you can boot from the CD) and have a safe kid-friendly environment. Web access is filtered with "Dans-Guardian" and I believe it does a great job at it. If you want to try it out you can find it at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/kid-safe
